This Privacy Policy describes how What To Eat ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and discloses information when you use our mobile application (the "App") available on Google Play.
Summary: We prioritize your privacy. What To Eat does not require an account, does not sell your personal information, and only uses device location ephemerally to find restaurants near you.
1. Information We Collect
A. Location Information
When you grant location permission, the App accesses your device's Approximate & Precise Location (GPS) to search and display restaurants nearest to you.
- On-Device Real-Time Processing: Coordinates are transmitted securely over HTTPS solely to query nearby public restaurant points of interest (via OpenStreetMap Overpass API and/or Google Places API).
- No Continuous Tracking: We do not track, record, or store your continuous location history on external servers.
B. Local Storage & Preferences
The App stores user preferences locally on your device using encrypted native storage (AsyncStorage). This includes:
- Bookmarked favorite restaurants and pick history.
- Preferred search distance radius (e.g. 500m to 10km).
- Preferred navigation application (Google Maps, Waze, Apple Maps).
- VIP Lifetime Ad-Free entitlement status.
C. Advertisements
The free version of What To Eat displays non-personalized dining promos and sponsored restaurant recommendations. Tapping an ad will launch the sponsor's external webpage in your device's browser.
D. In-App Purchases & Payments
Purchases for the What To Eat VIP (Lifetime Ad-Free) upgrade are processed exclusively and securely through the Google Play In-App Billing System. We do not collect or store your payment card details, billing addresses, or financial data.
2. How We Use Your Information
The collected information is used strictly to:
- Fetch, filter, and rank nearby restaurants based on your selected criteria.
- Launch turn-by-turn navigation in your chosen navigation app.
- Maintain your ad-free VIP purchase status across app restarts.
- Ensure stability, error-free operation, and performance.
3. Third-Party Services & Open Data
The App relies on trusted open-source and developer services:
- OpenStreetMap & Overpass API: Community-driven open geographic database used to discover local restaurants without collecting user identity.
- Google Play Services: Core infrastructure for application distribution, in-app billing verification, and automatic updates.
- Google Places API (Optional): Used only if an optional developer key is supplied to enrich photo galleries.
4. Data Retention & Deletion
We do not maintain remote user databases or collect personal user accounts. All saved preferences and bookmarks remain strictly on your local device and can be permanently deleted at any time by clearing the App's storage cache or uninstalling the App.
5. Children's Privacy
What To Eat is designed for general audiences aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal identifiable information from children under 13.
6. Your Permissions & Control
- Location Permission: You can revoke location access at any time in your device's Android System Settings. You can still use the App by manually choosing any city worldwide.
- Ad-Free Experience: You can permanently remove all advertisements through the one-time VIP Lifetime upgrade.
